A RUNWAY SHOW by caleb callahan, Callahan’s first full length fashion show, took place on June 18th 2021 in New York City. The event featured performances by Johnny VuDOE, Jay Cinema, and g3mston3. The show also included music by achille and a short art film created by Emma Fusco and Caleb Callahan.
Taking inspiration from designers like Belgian Maison Martin Margiela and Georgian Demna Gvasalia, Callahan’s first collection fuses street fashion with a dark academia aesthetic, to create deliberately oversized, ungendered, mixed media garments manufactured using a variety of techniques, including digital art, illustration and photography.
A key theme and repeated emblem of this collection is the “National Drifter’s Club,” which, like the collection as a whole, speaks explicitly to the hustle culture of today’s “gig generation.” The visual effect of young models in oversized office wear emblazoned with pop art and slogans intends to challenge the stereotypes of dressing “smartly” and how we conflate fashion choices with intellect and success.
